...a little further out...

hmm... been a few days since a post... umm.. guildwar sa fair amount this weekend.. buti reached a milestone and there's not as much allure anymore...

saw charlie and the chocolate factory yesterday, i thought it was wonderful.... it made me giggle.. a lot... phil liked it.. brian didn't think it was too great... johnny playe dthe part delightfully quirky, it was jsut great... in my humble opinion...

went to ann arbor fridy with phil... we were gong to a micro brewery i had been to before... turns out it was ann arbors summer art fest... so it was very busy... the wait was too long at the arbor brewing comany we moseyed aorund fo ra bit and happened upon thegrizzly peak breweing company... phila ndi both got the 5 beer sampler, only $6... the forst beer was a godlne alei think... it was rather ordinary... the seocn dwas a pale ale.. i liked this a lot... the next was called stealhead red... it was red..andi thad a sweet flavour.. the menu said it was caramel... i liked this... the next was the bearpaw porter, a very dark heavy beer... it made guiness seem like a wimpy beer... the fifth beer was the most interesting beer i'd ever had.. it was made from rye.. it was jsut so bizzarre...

saturday was uneventful... went to walmart to get a envelope to send nigthmare befoe christmas and boondock saints to my sister... and hobby shop to check the pric eona aprt for capstone...

brian's been doing a good amoutnof workon the sub.... i'm rather with impressed with what he has done... i started working withthe PIC programmer today... so i shoud be abele to program our processor...

sunday... kimi had hydraulic problems finished last.. montoya qualified 19th after spinning out... he finished the race second... later was charlie.... oh and while thinkign aboutit there was a trialer for he corpse bride... this made me giggle also, i look forward to this...

hmm... i dunno whatelse to say at the moment...

the grasp is weakening...

okay.. guildwars is dying down some... only two hours yesterday... down from the 8 or so most of last week... after this week i'll need to spend mroe time on school, welli shoud spend mroe time on school... andi sitll need ot post pictures... and i will at some point...

classes

acoustics... i guess its interesting... but there are two homeowkrs due everyweek... and the homeowrk is graded... i have not had graded homeowrk of this frequency ever and it's sort of pissing me off... i keep telling msyelf nad others it'll keep me sharp... but it's really jsut annoying me... the prof seem sliek a nice enough guy though...

computer netowrks... interesting at first, but tis' startingot feel like any CE class with me spending the entire hour day dreaming... one period the prof called on me and only me... then today he called on me again and had to ask my fucking name again, i was a bit offended... theni answered the question he told me no that's not right and said the same thing using slightly differnet words... have first lab for that class tomorrow... it invovles java... i have not used java for atleast two years now...

capstone, is gong okay... our group meets pretty much every day for some period of time... well not weekends... we have ot make a submarine that can maneurve thru an obstacle course... though the prof has yet to define the course... she saids it's autonomous.. but from a discussion on friday you simply pre program the course... thenti also has to pass an endurance test, it must keep running for 2 hours... the body is a paint ball refill tube... we can make it neutrally buoyant... and we can makeit water tight... this week we are workignon finding all the parts we will need... we are using rc servo motors for yaw and pitch control, easily controllable using a PWM signal... and a dc motor for the drive motor... speed can be adjsut also through PWM, this signal will ned to be ran through an optical isolator controlling a more powerful source... this is very similar ot how we controlled the throttle body last term... electronically it shoudl be pretty simple... controlling the motors should be pretty striaght forward using a PIC processor with 3 channels of PWM... the rest is mechanical design whichi really wam mroe owrried about...

evenings still spent eiher playing guild wars or talking to Liz... last weekend i wasup very late both nights tlaking ot her...

going ot the brickyard ausgut 7th.. have an extra ticket... khautz, you interested and able?

ordered july's cd;s finally, neither bandi had ever heard of.. rotersand and unter null... both have a german sound to them... i don't knwo about rotersand, but unter null is form washington state i believe... (netowrks prof, showed how to send an email using very rudimentary smtp commands, thought ti'd be funto write a german phrase, i know he misspelled a word.. andi think he used the wrong conjugation of it)... it's described as a female version of suicide commando... fthe tracks i heard i'm hard pressed to say the vocals sound very feminine... the other one in the quick blurb was comapred in someways to pink floyd... ::shrugs:: i listened to 30 second samples and wasn't appalled soi gave it a go... phil also ordered an icon of coil cd so wecould share shipping.. (flat $6, free with orders over $200) he didn't wanna try anything new...

meeting with group soon... ill try to post something tomorrow....

Dublin Pictures

I'm currently uploading a gallery of all my dublin pictures... resized all to about 800x600, if want larger let me know... i'll be doing this with all my vacation pictures i think, but i'll uplaod other ones oncei get ot flint and can upload afaster than 8kb/s

dublin gallery

(it's still uploading may take some time though, it'll work whenthe upload is finished)

edit:

the above one is working, i found another album generator tha'ts a differnt format you can try to... the above one has thumbnails and click on thumbnail to see bigger image... this on acts lieka slide show of the bigger pictures... much easier if you actually wanna look at all the pictures...

slide show thingy

edit: (again)

which format is more convient to either of one or two people who actually care?

headaches return

(this post was lsot when i posted the greenock one, blogger farked up i guess, maybe why comments couldn't be left on it...)

i have a nasty headache... like i had at the end of my fall work term... i swear... i dunno what it is about dayton but it jsut destroys me... flint in five days will be a very welcome change...

i planned on psoting my next little blurb about my trip but i don't feel like messing around with the pictures right now... because my head hurts...

sleep avoiding me inthe mornings again... i sleep fine at night, but even though i wka eup feeling exhausted i've gotten up at 6:30 and 7:20 so far since i've been home... today that allowed me to watch the Grand Prix de France live though... which i'm happy withthe out come.. oucl dhave always been better... but still... kimi worked his way up from 13th to 2nd and held on.. tha't a lot of passing for f1... alonso won for renault... schumy 3rd for ferrari... schumy woul dhave been lapped by alonso ina few more laps... kimi was about a third of a lap behind... montoya was running fine in 3rd and probably woul dhave finsihed there, but he was losing hydraulic pressure and couldn't shift... montoya has poor luck... he's leading and gets black flagged, and mechanical failures... hmph... poor guy... he also cried when he couldn't race inteh states... i hope his luck changes, it'll be good for himand good for team mclaren... rumour in autoweek that ferrari has approached kimi to drive for them when his contract with mclaren expires in after the '06 season... this would make me sad... thoughi think mclaren offers the superior machines at the moment... anyways...

after church i came home and finished reading hannibal... i was told it was every bit as distrubing at american psycho... i was very disappointed... maybe i'm just that desensitized now... but not once did hannibal make me feel the teenist little bit sick... psycho did several times... but it wasn't a bad booki guess... oncei finally commited ot readingit it went smoothly... after finishing reading i watched the movie...the movie was terrible... i'll leave it at that...

have tomororw off work, whihc i thinki still need to try to rest up some... i may watch the shining in a little bit...

Greenock, Scotland

Scotland… slept a bit later than I thought I would… but i only got about 3 hours of sleep the previous night… wasn’t in a very good mood till after lunch…

This morning was spent waling around our port city of Greenock…Greenock, seemed like a neat place numerous old church looking building, cobble stone streets… we went to a free museum, and they had free internet so i could check my email, heh… walked around the town some, didn’t do too much else exciting… lunch was at a local restaurant, was not authentic at all and was very expensive.. 6 pounds (~$12, with the exchange rate my dad was given, but i think they gave him the shaft there) for a baked potato with chili on it.. came with a interesting salad and cole slaw… then ti was back to the ship for a minute and then on our bus tour of several lochs…

This bus had air conditioner that worked, this was very nice… I umm fell asleep for part of the bus tour… I felt bad, but i honestly wasn’t too terribly interested at times… I was happy to have opportunities fpr photo outside of he bus at a couple locations… i tried to free hand a pano in Greenock without using the guide feature on my camera, a big tear in it, but better than i had thought… but with the guide they’ve been coming out pretty good… also the tour stopped at a neat little village called Luss… looked like a tourist trap place but once there it seemed more real, folks actually live there…

here's a loch(lake)...

pano1, pano2

Scotland at least this part kind of reminds me of a more mature Alaska, with all the coastal towns with decent size hills just behind them…. But the towns are much much larger here in Scotland… the similar land and feel could likely be contributed to the more northern locations of both Alaska and Scotland, though Alaska is further north, both are more north than I am used to…

During the bus tour I did learn some of the Scottish clans and such, most amusing to me when a family was outlawed, it was expected if you ever ran across a member of that family to kill them on the spot…

Peugeot’s logo looks like a zombie lion; I want to get something with the logo on it…

Scotland in general… didn’t feel too different again… maybe when English stops being the language of the land stuff will feel different… Scottish economy… not very good, shit is expensive there… high taxes on cars… a ford fiesta, not sold here probably because it is too much of an economy car for the states(fiesta used to be sold here, smaller than escorts), but those go for about $12k… in Ireland the taxi driver said a car like his would cost $20k more in Ireland than Germany, due to taxes and such… but Scotland has no real big industry anymore, they sued ot be a center for bulidng steam powered ships, other places became cheaper… then it was textile, again other place better… now they just have wool and whiskey… whiskey will likely remain there thing, but is that really enough to support a country on?

Grand Prix de France

first f1 race since the disappointing US GrandPrix tomorrow... Doenst look too good for McLaren... Kimi qualitfied third but blew his engine, it was a slightyly altered engine design that they were jsut trying out... they went back to the old design, which is apparently more reliable... FIA rules inflict a 10 position penalty if you have ot install new engine after practice and qualifying... so Kimi starts in 13th.. and montoya is 9th i think... Montoya hasn't had the best of lcuk this season... I hope kimi can manage a podium finish... ferrari, toyota and renault are all up front... if kimi can't win, which i doubt 13 spots in an f1 race will be very difficult, so i'll be cheering for alonso in his renault... i guess it woul dbe nice for renault ot win being in france and all...

going back to air cooling for my desktop.. ordered a new heatisnk while in the netherlands... it's suppsoed ot be here today.. but i'm not holding my breath since it is 4:30 and it's not here.. so this mornirng cleaned up my dekstop... pulled out all the watercooling stuff dusted it... it was terrible in there.. and now i ahve all sorts of spcae... i'tll be nice... still don't plan on usingit too much... i love my laptop too much now...

Dublin

Great day overall, of course had it’s ups and downs… couldn’t sleep till after 4 am… neither could my sister… we got in to port around 3 am, watched them pull us in and tie us up… took some neat pictures of Dublin at 3am… they turned out rather grainy, but they look kind of neat, the lighting make sit look like it’s from a video game… we went to the buffet around 4 and had some muffins and fruit… I eventually found sleep, had to get up at 7:45…

Image hosted by Photobucket.com (click for full res, low light, grainy, lens distortion, i don't care, but i know they're there...)

Morning tour to glendalough, monastery ruins.. umm I’m terrible I forget the dates they told us now.. I wanna say around 500 AD is when they were originally built… lots of pictures form this… got a really nice one of a celtic cross gravestone…I don’t like being around the crusie folk.. I’d rather we go do stuff on our own… it’s time to eat so I’ll finish later…

Back from supper… cruise folk bother me are seem to be the exceptionally rude people… folks around Dublin seemed fairly nice, reasonable people… after we returned from our trip thorugh he country, which was rather pretty, I’d love ot drive those roads… anyway ate lunch on the boat and bought tickets to ride a bus to downtown Dublin… we walked to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, it was worth seeing I think…. None of my pictures turned out well, which isn’t to much of a surprise… I didn’t have tripod or image stabilization to work with… sadly again my geekitude shows and being there reminded me of a video game… amazing stained glass windows, extremely high ceilings… glad we went… it was quiet upon first arriving, then a lare tour group showed up, and it got crowded, we left shortly following this…

Next stop was Trinity College to see the book of kell’s… the library was closed when we got there around 5:15… I bought a bottle of soda called club orange, it had 11% juice and pieces of orange floating in it… it was different but good… went to a gift shop, I bought a pint Guinness glass and a postcard to send to Liz.. the post card has an old man and a dog sitting in a pub… it seemed pretty random so I don’t have to offer any deep explaination as to why I chose it… simply that it seemed odd and I like odd stuff… though the doggie looks a bit like one of her dogs… next stop was a pub where my dad sister and i all got Guinness… dad and i large, sister small, my mom doesn’t like the dark beer and got a Heineken …

After the drinks it was time to head back to the ship… we had purchased return bus tickets as well… the line was long the buses only came every 30 minutes, did not make the first bus… we flagged down a Mercedes taxi and it took us to the ship… the bus tickets were $4 a piece so $16 total.. the taxi with no waiting, more comfortable and what really made my day, riding in a benzo, was only 8.60(euro=~$1.25)… in the future we will be using taxi’s to and from ship, cheaper easier, quicker more comfortable… and buying tours thought he cruise is also being questioned… they stick you on tour buses with harldy any room to move, tighter quarters than an aeroplane, no air conditioning or windows that open(later tour buses had a/c Ireland did not though… it’s fucking terrible… plus you get stuck with snotty rude cruise patrons…
Back.. supper… magic show… some magician they flew in from vegas… “magic” isn’t really my thing though… and this show didn’t impress me at all… more of a show… actually tricks were probably only 5 or 6… just put with music and dancing to spread through an entire hour… walked around the boat a bit and here I am… very tired after little sleep last night…

Apart form extremely heavy traffic I liked Dublin, and wouldn’t mind living there if the opportunity ever presented itself… I’d have to buy a motorcycle or scooter if i had to maneuver downtown with any sort of frequency… but other than that the people seems decent… much more pleasant than cruise folk…

Tomorrow is Scotland, porting in a town called Greenock…

I’m taking numerous panoramic shots and they’re coming out nicely… I hope to keep that up. I like the panoramic’s.. I feel they give a much better representation of the scenery… I’ve taken them off the balcony at every port so far, also the irish country side at glendalough, st Patrick’s cathedral, f1 seats and a rainbow at my house form last week… these are the ones I’ve pieced together since I’ve been on vacation…

Home

yay... glad to be home... it was rough for me not having any real privacy for 10 days... i just need a lone time, to recharge i guess is the term often used... and i didn't really have that opportunity...

also glad ot be away from snobby cruise folk... not only do they act stupid as hell on vacation they are extrememly pushy and rude and self important... i jsut can't deal with them...

europe itself was great, would likeot go back and spend mroe thana day in many places... excpet paris... i have zero desire ot return to paris... sure there'sa lot of histroya nd the bulidng are very nice... but the traffic and the amount of people there i cannot handle...

after being up for 24 horuis slept a nice long 6 hours before not being able ot sleep any more... yay... still on europe timei bet... 6:30 inthe mornring is 11:30... atleast in the last time zone i was in...

I'll start posting a couple of the post i wrote onthe trip now...
